Vadakara: Transactions worth ₹15 lakh were carried out through the bank account of Keerthana, a former teacher at the Perambra BRC, within 5 months in connection with the Vadakara MDMA case. The investigation team has collected complete details of the transactions. It has also emerged that she had financial dealings with accused persons in various MDMA cases registered by the police and Excise Department in different parts of the district.

The other day, while being taken out of court, Keerthana had told the media that she was not involved in the case and no transactions mentioned by the police had taken place through her account. She had said that this would be clear if her account was examined. However, when investigators showed her details of the account transactions during questioning, she remained silent.

Keerthana allegedly acted as directed by Shinto, a native of Wayanad who is suspected to be the mastermind of the case. Whenever money was credited to the account, Keerthana would inform Shinto. The recipients would then receive MDMA after the money was transferred.

Although Keerthana did not fully cooperate with the questioning, the investigation team managed to clarify some crucial aspects of the case. She may be taken into custody again if necessary for further interrogation.

After two days of questioning, Keerthana was produced before the court again on Friday evening.

Jijil remanded in Payyoli case too

Jijil, 5th accused in the Vadakara MDMA case, was also remanded by the Vadakara NDPS Court in connection with a case in which a youth was arrested with 13.56 grams of MDMA in Payyoli on May 20. Jijil had been made an accused in the case the other day.

Jijil, who is currently in judicial custody in the Vadakara case, was formally arrested in the Payyoli case on Friday and produced before the court. He was then remanded for 14 days.

Muhammad Irfan, who was arrested with MDMA in Payyoli, had allegedly sent money to Jijil. The police had summoned Jijil twice at the time, but no evidence was found against him. After Jijil was arrested in the Vadakara case, the Payyoli police gathered further information and named him as an accused.

Kozhikode Rural SP Merin Joseph said the chargesheet in the case would be filed within two months. “The investigation is progressing well. We are collecting as much evidence as possible,” she said.

The SP also said that all arrests made so far in the Vadakara MDMA case were based on concrete evidence.
