Vadakara: The car involved in the tragic accident that left 62-year-old Kannur native Baby dead and her nine-year-old granddaughter, Drishana, in a coma has been found, ten months after the incident.

Kozhikode District Police Chief (Rural) Nidhin Raj said in a press conference that a white Maruti Swift, believed to have caused the accident, had been located.

The new development comes months after the probe had intensified. It should be noted that, despite examining CCTV footage from the area, the police found no substantial evidence. The investigation had stalled, prompting Baby’s relatives to file complaints with the Chief Minister and other authorities. Following this, the inquiry was intensified.

According to the Rural SP, the accused was driving carelessly and caused the accident. After the incident, the accused, fearing police action, fled. Later, the car was reportedly altered, according to the Rural SP. The police had noticed a vehicle similar to the white Swift car seen in the footage and found that it had been brought in for an insurance claim. Upon investigation, it was confirmed that it was the car involved in the accident.

The accident occurred on February 17 this year at Chorode, near Vadakara, at around 9 pm. Baby and Drishana were crossing the road to visit a relative’s house after getting off a bus when a speeding white car struck them. The car fled the scene without stopping. Baby succumbed to her injuries before reaching the hospital, while Drishana was left unconscious. Drishana had been under treatment at Kozhikode Medical College Hospital and has been in a coma since then.
