Thiruvananthapuram: In a significant step towards digital transformation, the Kerala Finance Department has approved the adoption of Unified Payments Interface (UPI) systems for transactions in government offices. This decision signifies a shift from traditional payment methods to more convenient and efficient digital transactions.

Currently, payments are processed via e-receipts at Treasuries and Akshaya Kendras. With the new initiative, individuals will be able to make payments using UPI platforms such as Google Pay and PhonePe by scanning QR codes at the relevant government offices. This development will enable citizens to complete transactions without visiting treasuries or Akshaya Kendras, thereby enhancing accessibility and efficiency.

In a related move, the Travancore Devaswom Board has also introduced UPI payment systems for temple offerings. The initiative was launched by Board President P.S. Prasanth at the Sri Parasurama Swamy Temple in Thiruvallam. QR codes have been installed at offering counters, allowing devotees to make offerings digitally.

Initially, this project will be implemented at the Parasurama Swamy Temple and the Sreekanteswaram Mahadeva Temple. The Board plans to extend the system to all temples under its jurisdiction within a month. This initiative is being executed in collaboration with Dhanlaxmi Bank, which has provided the necessary QR codes and sound machines for the temples.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by key officials, including the Tiruvallam Temple Administrative Officer, the Assistant Accounts Officer, the Vigilance Officer, and the Zonal Officer from Dhanlaxmi Bank.
