New Delhi: The Union Government on Wednesday responded to various questions raised by Kerala MPs regarding Vande Bharat trains operating in the state. However, it appeared that the government skipped specifics in its answers.

On the question of whether the speed of Vande Bharat trains in Kerala will be increased, it stated that the speed of train services, including Vande Bharat services, depends on various factors. According to the government, the maximum permissible speed of the sections, the gradient of the sections en route, the speed potential of the rolling stock or locomotive, the availability of the path, maintenance corridor blocks, permanent and temporary speed restrictions, the signalling system, and stoppages are deciders. However, the reply noted that all Vande Bharat Express trains are scheduled to run at the Maximum Permissible Speed of the sections en route to optimally utilise the speed potential of the Vande Bharat coaches.

On the question of whether new Vande Bharat trains will be allocated to the state, the Union Government maintained that the introduction of Vande Bharat services, including the new variants, is an ongoing process on Indian Railways, subject to traffic justification, operational feasibility, and resource availability.

The answers were tabled for the unstarred questions asked by MPs Shashi Tharoor, NK Premachandran, and Adoor Prakash.
