Kochi: Veteran actor Unnikrishnan Namboodiri reached Ernakulam from Payyanoor on Wednesday despite his physical exhaustion caused by age. He got ready in the morning to witness his youngest son ‘Kunji’ getting inducted as a judge. He was asking all those who came to see him whether he was looking smart in his violet silk shirt.

PV Kunjikrishnan left for the High Court with his wheelchair-bound father in the car to be sworn-in as High Court judge. Before that Unnikrishnan Namboodiri whole heartedly blessed his son while chanting mantras, despite his memory loss.

In his speech after the swearing-in ceremony, Justice Kunjikrishnan credited his father’s love and blessings as the reason for his success. Unnikrishnan Namboodiri was seated in the front row with his eyes closed and chanting prayers when this was said.

Kunjikrishnan had joined Payyannur college for studying his favourite subject Mathematics. But his father asked him to take up law following the death of his father’s elder brother, who was one of the leading advocates in Kasaragod, which he wholeheartedly accepted.

When he returned to Payyannur to practise law, his father urged him to practise at Kozhikode District Court. After three years, the father again asked him to move to the High Court.

Justice Kunjikrishnan said that he followed his father’s instructions out of love and that was what lead him forward in life. He also expressed his joy that his father was able to witness the function. Other relatives including lyricist Kaithapram Damodaran Namboodiri were also present at the ceremony.
