Kalpetta, Wayanad: The Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) has called for a dawn-to-dusk hartal in Wayanad on Thursday to protest against the increasing wildlife attacks in the district. The hartal will be observed from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.
UDF district leadership stated that the protest is against the government's inaction despite repeated wildlife attacks leading to human casualties. Essential services, exams, weddings, and the Pallikkunnu Church Festival have been exempted from the hartal.
The protest comes in the wake of two fatal elephant attacks in the past two days. In the last 43 days, four people have died in Wayanad due to wildlife attacks.
