Thiruvananthapuram: The police officer accused of tipping off the suspects in the death case of Thiruvallam native Shahana Shaji has been suspended from service.

The civil police officer who was handed out the punishment was identified as Navas, he worked at the Kadakkal police station. It should be noted that the Fort AC had earlier submitted a report to the state police superintendent demanding action against the cop.

A case has been registered against Shahana’s husband and her mother-in-law for abetment of suicide. As and when sources confirmed the presence of the accused in Kadakkal station limits, a police team from Thiruvallam rushed to the place. However, Navas, CPO at Kadakkal station allegedly passed on the information to the accused allowing them to flee the spot. The suspension was issued to Navas following the incident.

Shahana was found hanging at her own residence in Vandithadam on December 26. Following her death, a complaint was lodged alleging that she was forced to commit suicide due to harassment and assault from her in-laws.
