Kochi: Kerala High Court on Thursday allowed Dr. Ruwise, the prime accused in the suicide of the PG student and his ex-fiancee Dr. A J Shahana, to continue his medical studies.
The bench of Justice C.P. Muhammed Niyaz stayed a suspension order issued by the Kerala University of Health Sciences (KUHS) barring Ruwise from continuing his postgraduate studies. The court observed that the 28-year-old earned admission to the PG course on merit, and restricting him from studies pending the inquiry or trial would place him in a situation where irreparable damage might occur if the charges are not proven.
Following this, the court directed the authorities to pass an order within a week to permit him to continue his studies and take necessary steps to prevent any untoward incident in the college in regard to his return to the campus.
Shahana died by suicide on Dec 4, 2023. Her family later alleged that Dr Ruwise demanded dowry to marry her. Based on the family's complaint, the police arrested Ruwise and released him on bail.
