Thiruvananthapuram: Putting Thiruvananthapuram Mayor Arya Rajendran on the defensive, the CCTV visuals of the altercation between her and a KSRTC bus driver show that the car in which she was travelling overtook the bus from the left and stopped in front of the bus.

She is facing criticism from many corners for stopping the vehicle on mid way when there is legal provision to take action against the driver in case of any fault on his part. It is observed that both the mayor and her MLA husband Sachin Dev’s action was uncalled for.

It is clear from the CCTV footage that the car was stopped in front of the bus through the zebra crossing. This itself was illegal. The argument that it was at the time of the red signal will also not stand because other vehicles passing can also be seen on the footage.

It is being alleged that the mayor hardened her stance against the driver when the CCTV footage made it clear that their vehicle flouted traffic rules. The Mayor then made accusations against the driver of making obscene gestures against her and her sister-in-law. The Mayor has alleged that there were similar cases filed against him before also.

She had also alleged that the driver was under the influence of drugs. However, it was proved wrong during the medical examination.

The police have also not filed any case in the complaint of bus driver Yadu. He has been suspended from duty following the incident. A case has been booked against him on her complaint and later he was granted a bail.
