Thiruvananthapuram: Muthalapozhi here on Monday witnessed dramatic scenes as a group of fisherfolk confronted ministers during their visit in the wake of a fishing boat mishap. The fisherfolk approached ministers V Sivankutty, Antony Raju, and GR Anil who arrived at the spot. They obstructed ministers and alleged laxity of authorities concerned which delayed the rescue mission despite the fact that the incident happened in the morning. They raised many other issues raised by fisherfolk. It later turned to verbal spat and protest.
A woman reportedly asked the ministers, whether they can get at least the dead bodies of the missing fishermen. The scene escalated after the ministers allegedly told the fisherfolk to avoid “showoff.”

According to locals, fisherfolk are exasperated as authorities concerned are not seen as active in ensuring safety despite repeated accidents in the region.
Meanwhile, one person died and three went missing in the mishap that happened in the wee hours of the day. The search for the missing persons is still continuing.
As per reports, the boat, owned by Puthukurichy native Anthony, capsized while all four fishermen went fishing early in the morning. The tragedy happened around 4 am.
