Chennai: After a long gap of six months, train service was conducted between Chennai and Mangaluru. The special train (12602) started from 8.10 pm from Chennai and arrived at 12.10 pm on Tuesday at Mangaluru.

The train (12602) started from Mangaluru at 1.30 pm and will arrive at 5.35 am in Chennai on Wednesday. This daily train service will has 21 stops in Kerala starting from Palakkad to Manjeswaram.

The train service has become beneficial to many commoners stuck in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka amid Covid pandemic. Only passengers are allowed to enter the station. Their temperature is checked using a thermal scanner. Apart from AC and Sleeper coaches, 4 general coaches are also functional. All these seats need booking in advance.

On the first day, more than 300 berths were vacant in Sleeper coaches. But on Tuesday, the vacant berths were less than 150. The same in 3rd AC coaches were 237 on Monday while for the coming days it is less than 130.
