Wayanad: In an unfortunate incident, a man injured his leg after a tiger jumped in front of the bike that he was riding. The incident occurred in Muppainad at around 8 PM on Monday. Pullikayat Jose sustained injuries after he lost control of the bike after spotting the tiger. In another incident, a tiger attacked a cow tied in a stable at Nallanur native Joy’s homestead.

The Nallanur area of Muppainad has witnessed tiger attacks for a long time. The people have been living in fear for months. The tiger attacked seven cows in the last two months, of which three died. Many of the injured cows are still not fully recovered. 

Jose, who runs a business, spotted the tiger when he was returning home after closing his shop at night. The tiger leaped across the road, near a tea garden just half a kilometer away from his house. “It was dark and raining heavily. When the tiger jumped the track, I lost control of the bike and fell,” Jose said. The injured Jose was taken to the hospital by forest guards in the morning.

The tiger came to Joy’s stable at Nallanur at midnight and attacked his two and a half year old cow. The family was woken up by the collective crying of cows. As there was an electricity cut at that time, Joy went to the shed with a torch. Seeing them, the tiger came out of the shed and tried to pounce on them. Joy ran inside with his wife and son and closed the door. The cow that was bitten on its neck is still in a critical stage. Though a doctor came in the morning and administered an injection, Joy has no hopes of the cow surviving as the neck wounds are quite deep.
