Thrissur: The motor vehicle department issued a notice to Thrissur native Binoy Alex, demanding road tax for his heavy goods vehicle which he had scrapped nearly 14 years ago.
Citing the confusion, Binoy has given complaints to the Thrissur RTO and the transport commissioner. Along with his complaint, he has attached proofs including the motor vehicle department’s report, which was issued while scraping his vehicle years ago.

The details mentioned in the tax notice issued to Binoy’s ‘scrapped’ truck (KL 08 E 2419) lacks clarity as well. As per the tax demand notice, Binoy was asked to pay road taxes up to 27-02-2022. But the time period has not been specified accurately.
Binoy’s truck was registered in December, 1994, and scrapped in September, 2009 after receiving the nod from the concerned officials.
Similar complaints were raised by many other vehicle owners as well. And some of them end up in legal tangles as they fail to produce the documents of their old vehicles, unlike in this case.
