Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala government is awaiting approval from the Central Election Commission to transfer Police Commissioner Ankit Asokan and Assistant Police Commissioner K Sudersan, who have been accused of disrupting this year's Thrissur Pooram festivities.
The request to take action against these senior officers was submitted by the Kerala Government to Chief Election Officer Sanjay Kaul. According to sources, potential replacements for them have also been named in the submission to the Commission.
It is understood that the Kerala government refrained from immediate action due to the upcoming state elections, opting to defer to the discretion of the Commission.
Previously, in response to public outcry over the officers' handling of incidents at the Thrissur Pooram, the Chief Minister's Office (CMO) stated that recommendations had been made to transfer the duo.
However, the Election Commission has not yet responded to the matter, allowing the officers to remain in their roles in Thrissur for now.
