Chalakudy: A carjacked vehicle has been found abandoned just a few kilometres away from the locality after attacking the passengers.
The carjacking happened in the wee hours of Saturday. A gang which reportedly came in a Maharashtra registration vehicle carjacked another vehicle near the Chalakudy bridge.
The gang thrashed passengers Yoonas (50) and Saddique (38), natives of Muvattupuzha, and took away their vehicle. They also tried to attack the lorry driver on the way who tried to rescue the duo attacked by the gang. The lorry’s mirror was also broken during the attack.
Later, the injured persons were taken to Chalakudy taluk hospital. According to police, the gang might have attacked them mistaking to be hawala racketers.
Meanwhile, the carjacked vehicle was found near Kolkkunnu Temple in Kundai, a few kilometres from Chalakudy. The seats of the vehicle were ripped apart. The glasses were also broken. The vehicle was identified based on the information given by residents of the locality. Chalakudy Police seized the vehicle.
