Koratty: The notorious Kodali Sreedharan (60) who is accused in around 100 cases in as many as five states and is a leader of hawala gang, has been arrested. He was nabbed when trying to escape from police who surrounded him while the former was travelling in a car. Sreedharan was absconding after being released on bail.
DIG Ajeetha Begum, District Superintendent of Police Navneet Sharma and DySP T.S Sinoj said that there are 47 cases against Sreedharan in Kerala alone.
Sreedharan’s son Arun Kumar was also with him when arrested. A special police team, ‘Chalakudy Squad’ was trying to apprehend the accused for one and a half years now. Police received a tip that led to arresting the history-sheeter.
Police broke the car’s window and nabbed him as he was trying to manoeuvre, surpassing the vehicles that stopped in the traffic block. Sreedharan also reportedly pointed a gun at the police.
Police received hints that Sreedharan had bought a plot of land in Mambra and was constructing a house. The vehicles entering this plot were monitored for some time. This is how they were able to identify Sreedaran’s car, follow it stealthily and nab the criminal in a cinema-like chase.
