Thiruvananthapuram: Water pumping in Thiruvananthapuram, which was enduring a four-day water supply interruption due to the pipeline work associated with the double-tracking of the Thiruvananthapuram-Kanyakumari railway line, resumed on Sunday night following the completion of necessary pipeline installations at the Aruvikkara plant. 

The works took place under the supervision of the Superintendent Engineer.

Mayor Arya Rajendran reported considerable challenges, with the municipality deploying 40 vehicles,including 10 from Kochi, to distribute water. The municipality is working to address complaints and has committed to continuing water distribution via tankers until all issues are resolved. Educational institutions across the district, including professional colleges, have been granted a holiday on September 9 in light of the water shortage, though technical colleges will proceed with admission processes.

Water Resources Minister Roshy Augustine had assured that water distribution would be reinstated by late afternoon on Sunday; however, the work was not completed as expected. The disruption began on September 5 due to the necessary pipeline modifications for the railway line upgrade.
