Thiruvananthapuram: The District Collector has declared a holiday for all educational institutions, including professional colleges, within the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation limits on Monday (September 9) due to ongoing water supply issues in the city.
However, the notification specifies that the admission process at colleges under the Technical Education Department will proceed as scheduled.
Earlier today, Water Resources Minister Roshy Augustine had assured that water supply would be restored by 4 p.m. However, the water supply remained disrupted as the necessary work remained incomplete by Sunday evening. The capital city has been facing a suspension of drinking water supply for the past four days.
The interruption in the water supply is due to the development of the Thiruvananthapuram-Kanyakumari railway line. The work required stopping the water supply to different areas of the city on September 5. As part of the railway project, the water authority's transmission main pipelines to Nemom and Iranimuttom are being replaced.
