Thiruvananthapuram: The Thiruvananthapuram corporation is set for a major revamp. Several measures are being introduced for bringing professionalism in the way the institution functions. Despite having almost 2,500 employees, the corporation at times fails to provide quality services to the citizens. The Kerala Institute of Local Administration will look into the matter, prepare a detailed report regarding the project.
The corporation officials have already discussed the difficulties in working under the current setup with the higher officials. The employees often get burdened with a mix of technical and non-technical work. It should be noted that the corporation often deals with the incomes of various government departments. However, over 1.20 lakh complaints are being lodged against the corporation every year. A major chunk of the complainants are government employees.
At present, the corporation officials are striving to make use of all the possibilities of E-governance inorder to make the work easier for employees and for providing top notch services to the citizens.
Currently, transfers have crippled the workforce at the Thiruvananthapuram corporation office. As part of the revamp measures, regular training programmes will also be conducted for the employees.
The Thiruvananthapuram corporation is the largest in the state. It takes care of the affairs of 9.6 lakh people living across the 100 wards falling under its jurisdiction. There are 11 zonal offices and 23 health circle offices within the corporation. The annual budget of the body amounts to Rs 1,640 crores.
