Palakkad: The task being undertaken by the police on behalf of the CPM in Kerala is worse than that of thieves, said Shafi Parambil, MP. Speaking to reporters in the wake of the controversy surrounding the midnight raid conducted by the police at a hotel in Palakkad, Shafi said that the police would have to answer many questions regarding the dubious raid.
"Can anyone invite people who knock on their door at midnight and offer them seat for a nice chat? Is it a crime to ask for the identity card of an officer who claims to be a police officer at that hour of the night?" Shafi asked.
"The police arrived here with group dancers from the CPM and BJP. They (the police) couldn’t even issue a certificate when we asked for one. In the end, they gave us a piece of paper with ‘Nil’ written on it. Still, the CPM raises allegations of ‘mystery’ about the midnight drama that took place. Now, we raise the allegation of ‘suspicion’ about the individuals behind this conspiracy. Who gave the order for this raid? Why did the police lie? Why did they create a fake document? Why did the police conduct the raid without informing the RDO and ADM? There are so many questions to which the police must answer," Shafi said.
"The officials, including the RDO and ADM, have said that they were not informed about the raid beforehand. If it was a routine raid, why did the police head straight to the rooms of Bindu Krishna and Shanimol Usman? What happened at the hotel was clearly scripted and preplanned," he added.
"I have one thing to say to AA Rahim," Shafi said, ridiculing the MP. "It's one thing for him to lie—no complaints if he wants to make a habit of it. But don’t wear it as a badge of honour. Nobody appointed Rahim to be the final authority on a woman's dignity. What logic is there in his argument that a woman should open her door and allow those who claim to be police officers—without any uniform or proof—to enter her room?"
