Kollam: A total of 2,177 teachers have failed to report for higher secondary evaluation duty in Kerala, creating a serious concern ahead of the announcement of examination results on 25 May.
According to officials, 2,177 teachers across the state have not yet reported for evaluation work. The Department of General Education has issued a warning that strict disciplinary action will be taken against those who fail to report from the following day. A circular listing the names of the absent teachers has also been released.
Malappuram district has recorded the highest number of absentees, with 258 teachers yet to report. This is followed by Ernakulam (211) and Thiruvananthapuram (209). Other districts have also reported significant numbers of absences.
Subject-wise, English has the highest number of absent teachers at 363, followed by Physics (283), Chemistry (261), and Mathematics (248).

In total, 2,620,932 first-year answer scripts, 2,669,493 second-year scripts, and 625,000 first-year improvement papers are to be evaluated.
Around 24,167 teachers and staff are currently engaged in the evaluation process. Last year, the results were published on 22 May.
