Abdul Fattah Mahdi, brother of the slain Talal, has dismissed claims linking his family to cleric Kanthapuram, and defended Yemen’s judiciary

Kozhikode, Kerala: In a significant development in the Nimisha Priya case, Abdul Fattah Mahdi, brother of the deceased Yemeni national Talal Abdu Mahdi, has come forward with a strong statement rejecting reports that his family had any contact with Kanthapuram AP Aboobakr Musliyar.
In a post on Facebook, Abdul Fattah declared that those claiming to have spoken to Kanthapuram or negotiated on behalf of the victim’s family “have no connection whatsoever with us.” He added, “We have not contacted or met with them at any time or place.”
His remarks come amid growing confusion after Kanthapuram announced on social media that Nimisha Priya’s execution had been postponed, and even shared an official stay order.
Earlier, some reports suggested that Talal’s family had agreed to delay the execution following intervention by Sufi scholars. However, the latest revelation appears to contradict that narrative.

In the post, Abdul Fattah also launched a scathing attack on what he described as false media portrayals and external pressure campaigns.
He wrote: “Contrary to the false media propagates slander and allegations, and a distorted logic that portrays the reality as if we live under a militia system, we clearly state that we live in a country governed by a system and law, with a fair, fair and fair judgment on its head.”
He praised the Yemeni judiciary’s resistance to interference during the trial process and concluded by citing the words of a Yemeni leader: “This is the right of the parents of blood, and they are the kings of their own blood; no one can dispute them.”
Nimisha Priya, a nurse from Thekkinchira in Palakkad district, was convicted of murdering Yemeni citizen Talal in 2017 with the help of a nursing assistant. She allegedly dismembered his body and concealed it in a rooftop water tank. She remains imprisoned in Sana’a, Yemen’s capital.
