Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala: Based on revelations made by gold smuggling case accused Swapna Suresh, Congress leader M. Muneer has filed a complaint with the DGP demanding that a case be registered against former minister Kadakampally Surendran.
Muneer, a former president of Pothencode Block Panchayat, submitted the complaint to the state police chief on Sunday.
Earlier, the police had filed a suo motu case against Palakkad MLA Rahul Mamkootathil over sexual harassment allegations. Following this, Congress leaders have now raised similar allegations against Left leaders, pointing out that earlier complaints did not result in police action.
Audio messages and screenshots of text messages related to sexual misconduct by Rahul Mamkootathil had surfaced previously. Although no formal complaints had been filed, the police proceeded with an investigation. Congress leaders argue that similar allegations against Left leaders should also be investigated.
Swapna Suresh, who was involved in the gold smuggling case, had in 2022 publicly accused Kadakampally Surendran of sexual harassment. She claimed that the former minister had attempted sexual advances and sent inappropriate messages.
According to Muneer’s complaint, during Kadakampally’s tenure as minister, lewd audio messages were sent to women, and he allegedly collected phone numbers of women visiting his office and later approached them inappropriately.
