New Delhi: BJP MP and actor Suresh Gopi's aggressive retort to CPM MP K Radhakrishnan during the Lok Sabha debate on the Waqf Amendment Bill has set social media abuzz. The exchange, reminiscent of Gopi’s fiery on-screen roles, has since gone viral on social media. The BJP MP from Thrissur criticised the Kerala Legislative Assembly for passing a resolution demanding the withdrawal of the Waqf Amendment Bill. Gopi also said the resolution will be drowned in Arabian sea after the Bill will be passed in Rajya Sabha also on the next day.

During the debate, Radhakrishnan, MP from Alathur in Kerala, mentioned Suresh Gopi’s name while delivering his speech in Malayalam. Later, Deputy Speaker Dilip Saikia, who was presiding over the session, asked Gopi if he had anything to say in response. This prompted the Union Minister to address the Kerala Assembly’s resolution against the Waqf Amendment Bill.

In his speech, Radhakrishnan referred to a 1987 protest related to the Devaswom Board in Kerala. He stated, “A major unrest broke out because a Devaswom Board member’s name resembled that of a Christian, leading to a misunderstanding that they belonged to the Christian community. In 1987, there was a massive protest demanding that Hindu temples be handed over to Hindus.” During his remarks, he also asked, “Honourable Minister Suresh Gopi, are you paying attention to this?”

Following the mention of his name, Dilip Saikia asked Suresh Gopi whether he wished to respond. Taking the floor, Gopi asserted in the Lok Sabha that his name had been unnecessarily dragged into the discussion. He went on to criticise the Kerala Assembly’s resolution, saying, “They passed a resolution there, but after the Rajya Sabha’s decision tomorrow, that resolution will be drowned in the Arabian Sea. Just wait and watch.”

His remarks triggered protests from the opposition benches, leading to a heated exchange, with Gopi standing his ground against the uproar. However, social media erupted with praise for Gopi’s combative response, with right wing lauding his intensity. “What aggression! Pure fire!” one remarked, adding further drama to the already contentious Waqf Bill debate.
