A man died after jumping from the Kochi Metro track near Vadakkekotta station. Metro services were temporarily disrupted.

Kochi: A young man identified as Nisar, a resident of Tirurangadi in Malappuram, died after jumping from the Kochi Metro track near Vadakkekotta station in Thrippunithura on Thursday in an apparent suicide attempt. The incident caused a temporary disruption of metro services.
Nisar reportedly accessed the metro track through the Vadakkekotta station and walked a considerable distance along the elevated line. Before rescue officials could intervene, he jumped from the track onto the road below.
Metro services disrupted; Power shut off
In response to the breach, metro authorities immediately cut off the power supply, leading to a temporary disruption of metro services.
Locals alerted authorities; Rescue efforts fail
Witnesses in the area noticed a person walking along the metro track and alerted the Fire and Rescue Services. Rescue teams reached the scene and began preparations to prevent the fall, but were unable to stop the man from jumping.
He was initially rushed to a nearby hospital and later shifted to a Medical Trust Hospital, where he was declared dead.
Security breach under investigation
The incident has triggered serious concerns about security protocols at Kochi Metro stations. Authorities have confirmed that a detailed investigation is underway. CCTV footage from the station is being analysed to determine how the person gained unauthorised access to the track and whether there were lapses in surveillance.
