Mathrubhumi Media School students participated in a two-day attachment programme at the Kerala Legislative Assembly in Thiruvananthapuram. Led by M S Vijayan, Additional Secretary and Executive Director of Kerala Legislative Assembly Media and Parliamentary Studies, the attachment programme aimed to provide media students with first-hand insight into the working of the state legislature. PG Unnikrishnan, Joint Secretary and Director of Kerala Legislative Assembly Media and Parliamentary Studies, conducted a comprehensive session on the intricacies of Assembly procedures.
S Anil, Ex-Additional Secretary, shed light on the privileges accorded to mediapersons within the Assembly. Dinesh Kumar, Under Secretary, guided the students through an informative session on the roles and functions of Assembly Committees. Mr. Jomy K Joseph, Deputy Secretary, elucidated the intricate procedures involved in Assembly budgetary processes, providing students with a deeper understanding of fiscal governance within the legislative framework.
Media students also visited the Assembly gallery and museum, enriching their learning experience with first-hand exposure to the historical and institutional aspects of the Legislative Assembly.
The attachment programme marks a significant initiative in bridging the gap between media education and parliamentary affairs, equipping aspiring journalists with the knowledge and insights necessary to navigate the complex dynamics of legislative reporting.
