Thiruvananthapuram: The Argentinian Football Association is set to visit Kerala, as announced by Sports Minister V. Abdurahiman. During a recent trip to Argentina, the minister met officials from the Football Association, who showed keen interest in visiting Kerala.

Details about the exact arrival date of the Argentine team will be announced later. As part of their visit, the association plans to establish football academies in various locations across Kerala in partnership with the state government.

Previously, the Argentine team, including star player Lionel Messi, had shown interest in playing in India. However, high costs reportedly prevented the opportunity from materialising.

Minister Abdurahiman, thus, extended an invitation to the team to visit Kerala following which the team confirmed that they will indeed play matches in the state.

Earlier, the All India Football Federation (AIFF) had declined Argentina's invitation to play a friendly match in India due to the high costs involved. In response, Kerala Sports Minister vowed to extend an invitation and welcome the 2022 World Cup team to Kerala.
