Alappuzha: The family of Aboobacker, initially named as an accused in the Thottappally murder case of a 62-year-old woman, has come out against the police.

They alleged that Aboobacker was made an accused only after being called for questioning. The family stated that they had submitted complaints to the Chief Minister and the DGP and would also approach the Human Rights Commission.

Muhammad Rashim, son of Aboobacker, told the media that his father had been falsely implicated. “When my father was brought back, I asked the CI if I could meet him. At first, they refused, then allowed, saying it was only to calm him down. When I met him, my father hugged me and cried, saying, ‘They have trapped me, son.’ He does not have the strength to commit such an act. He is so weak that even a slight touch would make him fall down. Yet the FIR says he raped and murdered a woman. It is unbelievable,” Rashim said.

Police later clarified that Aboobacker, a 68-year-old from Mannanchery, was not the real culprit in the murder of the woman who was living alone in Thottappally. They confirmed that a couple had committed the crime during a robbery attempt. The woman was strangled to death.

The accused were identified as Sainulabdeen (43) and his wife, Aneesha (38). Sainulabdeen has been remanded, while Aneesha has been kept under medical observation due to epileptic symptoms.

However, police maintained that Aboobacker has only been cleared of the murder charge. He still remains in jail, facing charges including rape, which the police insist he committed.

The 62-year-old victim was found murdered inside her home on August 17, and according to police, she had also been sexually assaulted.
