Solar rape case: No proof against Oommen Chandy, says Crime Branch report

Kochi: In a setback to the state government, the Crime Branch report stated that there is no evidence against former chief minister Oommen Chandy in the sexual harassment case related to the solar scam. It is pointed out in the report that Oommen Chandy was not present at Cliff House on the day of the incident as claimed by the complainant.

The report also stated that there is no evidence to prove that the complainant reached Cliff house on the same day. The state government recently issued the order handing over the sexual harassment complaint against Oommen Chandy and other leaders related to solar scam to CBI.

The Crime Branch registered a case against Oommen Chandy and others on the basis of the complainant’s statement in 2018. Following this, the Crime Branch carried out a probe for over two years. Later, the case was handed over to CBI on the request of the complainants.

As part of the procedures, the state home secretary T K Jose had forwarded a report to the central government. According to the report, no evidence could be collected against Oommen Chandy and the Crime Branch failed to confirm that the incident mentioned in the complaint actually happened.
