
Thiruvananthapuram: The Motor Vehicles Department (MVD) is now gearing up to roll out PVC PET-G cards for registration certificates (RC) too similar to smart card driving licences. Applications can be submitted for smart RC cards from Thursday onwards. The distribution will begin from October 4.
As per reports, the RC cards will be printed and manufactured at the centralised unit in Thevara, where driving licences are printed in the state. One can convert their current registration certificates to smart card versions by paying Rs 200 and additional postal charges.
The new smart RC cards will be similar to ATM cards and can easily fit into wallets. It will contain various safety features including serial number, UV symbols, guilloche pattern, hologram, QR code among others.
Furthermore, MVD offices have been directed to clear all the pending applications ahead of October 3. For those applications which could not be processed due to technical reasons, one will have to remit a payment for PET-G cards too.
