Ramanatukara: The Malabar Spinning and Weaving Mills at Thiruvannur has announced layoffs citing shortage of raw materials required for production. On October 16, the employees were instructed not to come to the factory for the next 10 days.
The spinning and weaving mills is into the business of exporting threads. The management has now asked 230 of its employees to sit at home till October 27.
Meanwhile, the employees have expressed their anguish over the management’s sudden decision. They alleged the management of being irresponsible and criticised the officials saying that those who are running the mill have no plans whatsoever regarding its future.
On one hand, the officials are crying of shortage of funds while on the other hand they are purchasing machines worth crores. Two auto corner machines worth Rs 6 crores were installed at the mill very recently. The employees reminded those incharge that calculated and smart moves are the need of the hour if the mill has to regain its prosperity. If the situation slips out of hands, shutters will fall for yet another industry in Kozhikode.
