Wayanad: Wayanad has reported another case of Shigella infection, with an engineering college student testing positive for the bacterial disease. The student is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital.

The infection was confirmed after the student, who had sought medical care at Mananthavady Medical College a few days ago, received the test results. Health authorities have been informed about the case and monitoring the situation.

Four other students from the same engineering college have also approached medical authorities after developing symptoms linked to the infection.

Shigella is a bacterial infection that can cause symptoms such as diarrhoea, stomach cramps, fever and weakness. The infection usually spreads through contaminated food or water and can also spread through person-to-person contact if hygiene practices are not followed.

The latest case has raised concerns as Wayanad has reported Shigella infections previously. Health officials are expected to monitor students and take necessary preventive measures to prevent further spread.

Authorities have advised people to maintain proper hygiene, consume safe food and drinking water, and seek medical attention if symptoms of infection appear.
