Kochi: Janapaksha party leader Shaun George filed a petition in the High Court against the ongoing investigation into the irregular financial dealings between Cochin Minerals and Rutile Limited (CMRL) and Veena Vijayan’s company Exalogic Solutions. Shaun’s petition is against the probe announced by the Union ministry alleging that serious charges have not been imposed.

The Income Tax Interim Settlement Board found that Veena’s company received payments from CMRL despite not rendering any services. Based on this, the Registrar of Companies (ROC) has ordered a three-member committee to investigate and submit the report within four months.

Currently, the investigation is ordered as per Section 210 of the Companies Act. Shaun argued that this section is a frivolous inquiry confined to the Companies Act.

The demand in the petition is for an investigation by the Serious Fraud Investigation Office that investigates serious crimes. Shaun’s plea will be heard by the high court tomorrow.
