Kochi: The Ernakulam Central Police on Wednesday arrested businessman Boby Chemmanur in connection with a sexual harassment case filed by actress Honey Rose. Chemmanur was taken into custody and brought to the police station later in the evening. He is expected to be presented before the court on Thursday.

Earlier in the day, Honey Rose recorded her confidential statement at the Ernakulam First Class Magistrate Court.

Police sources indicated efforts are underway to ensure Chemmanur does not secure bail. By obtaining Rose’s statement before his court appearance, investigators aim to bolster the case against him.

A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed to investigate the allegations, with the circle inspector of Kochi Central Station leading the investigation. The SIT also includes personnel from the central station and the cyber cell.

A senior police officer confirmed that the case has been registered under non-bailable sections. “The statement of the complainant has been recorded, and further steps will follow,” the officer said.

Initial Allegations and Social Media Post
The issue first came to light when Honey Rose posted on Facebook, accusing an individual of stalking her and making inappropriate remarks. At the time, she did not reveal the identity of the man. The situation escalated after several people posted offensive comments, prompting Rose to approach the police. The Kochi Central Police registered a case against 30 individuals, arresting one of them.

Actress Identifies Chemmanur
On Tuesday, Rose posted a follow-up on social media, revealing Boby Chemmanur as the person behind the harassment. In the post, she wrote, “I have filed a complaint with the Ernakulam Central Police Station against your (Chemmanur) continuous derogatory remarks about me. I will take the same action against your supporters who share the same mentality.”

Rose also warned others with similar views that they would face legal consequences, expressing confidence in the Indian legal system despite Chemmanur’s wealth.

Chemmanur Denies Allegations
Boby Chemmanur denied the charges, stating there were no such issues between him and Rose. He claimed he never used derogatory terms and maintained that his interactions with her were always friendly. The businessman further asserted that he had consulted with his lawyers, who assured him that his actions were not inappropriate.
