Thiruvananthapuram: Advocate Bailin Das, who had gone into hiding after brutally assaulting a junior woman lawyer, was arrested on Thursday. According to reports, he was arrested from Station Kadavu in Thiruvananthapuram. The arrest was made by the Thumba Police, who had earlier conducted searches at his residence in Poonthura and at the homes of his friends in an effort to locate him.
Bailin Das, a senior advocate, had assaulted junior lawyer J V Shamili at his office located in the Maharani building at Vanchiyoor here. He reportedly beat her with a mop stick.
Following the incident, Bailin Das was temporarily suspended from the Bar Association. Based on a complaint filed by advocate Shamili, the police had registered a case under non-bailable sections. Bailin Das had subsequently filed an anticipatory bail plea in the Thiruvananthapuram Sessions Court. The arrest comes even as the court was yet to consider the plea.
After allegedly assaulting his junior, 26-year-old Shamili, a resident of Puthuvila in Parassala, Bailin Das had reportedly sought treatment at a coastal specialty hospital in Valiyathura. Hospital records indicated facial injuries. Police suspect the move was intended to file a counter-case against Shamili.
