Thiruvananthapuram: Advocate Bailin Das has been temporarily suspended from the Vanchiyoor Bar Association following a brutal assault on a junior woman advocate, Shamili Justine. He has also been directed to submit a report to the Bar Council detailing the incident.

Shamili Justine, a young lawyer practising at the Thiruvananthapuram District Court, was allegedly assaulted by her senior using a mop stick. She sustained injuries to her face and neck and is currently undergoing treatment at the Government General Hospital. Doctors have recommended scans to assess the extent of the damage and to check for fractures or internal injuries.

According to another woman advocate practising at the same court, Shamili has lodged a police complaint, and a case has been registered under non-bailable sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Although the Bar Association was initially hesitant to act against the accused, it later reported the matter to the nearest police station.

Bar Association officials stated they stand in solidarity with the victim and will support her in seeking justice. They clarified that Bailin Das has been suspended temporarily, pending further investigation. The Association also claimed it was unaware of Shamili’s allegation that some of its representatives attempted to intimidate her.

The incident reportedly occurred around 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday at an office in the Maharani Building, Vanchiyoor. The assault allegedly followed an argument earlier that day. Shamili stated in her complaint that she was struck, fell to the floor, and was hit again after being lifted. She also noted that no one present intervened during the attack.

Her family further alleged that Bar Association Secretary G. Muraleedharan remarked that Bailin would not be allowed to be arrested from the office premises.

Shamili, who has visible bruises on her face, may be shifted to the Medical College Hospital for further treatment.
