Cheruthoni: In the wake of a security lapse in Idukki dam, the Kerala Hydel Tourism Centre (KHTC), a wing of the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB), has decided to allow tourist entry in buggy cars only.
Tourists will not be allowed to walk above the dam. Only a maximum of 1400 people will be permitted entry a day. In order to ensure a smooth visit of tourists, more buggy cars will be purchased soon, said Narendra Nath Velluri, KHTC director.
“The hydel tourism centre in Idukki dam will be switched to green energy. As part of this, a decision has been made to purchase five 14-seater, solar-powered buggy cars,” Velluri said.
The entry will be facilitated through online ticket booking. The ticket rates (entry pass + buggy car ride) will be Rs 100 per person. Also, the ticket counter, which is currently located near the dam, will be shifted to Vellappara guest house.
