Thiruvananthapuram: Casting aside all suspicions of a sabotage attempt, the Kerala police have submitted a final report on the secretariat fire that erupted last year. The report ruled out any sabotage attempt and involvement of any officers in the incident.

The report also stated that the documents that destroyed in the fire are not crucial. However, it recommended a departmental inquiry over the finding of a liquor bottle inside the office.

The incident happened when the gold smuggling case became a controversy in the state. Followed by this, opposition unleashed an attack against the government. The state government probed the incident in two manners; an expert panel investigated it in one side and a police probe took place simultaneously.

The expert panel had submitted the report earlier citing short circuit as the reason for the fire and ruled out any sabotage attempt. The police report also stated the same.

According to the police report, a fan inside the office got heated enormously and it led to the melting of a plastic wrapper. The melted plastic fell on a paper and it caused to spread fire. A staff caught Covid-19 during the period and the fumigation team left the fan on while leaving the office.
