Bengaluru: A petition has been filed in the Supreme Court demanding that the search for Arjun, a Kozhikode resident who went missing in a landslide in Shiroor, Karnataka, be expedited.

Advocate Subhash Chandran filed the petition seeking immediate intervention. The petition states that the Karnataka government's intervention has been ineffective and calls for the central government and the Karnataka government to hand over the mission to the army to continue the rescue operations day and night.

Meanwhile, it has been learned that the 60-member army team from Belagavi will be delayed in reaching the disaster site. The army is expected to arrive by 1 pm, contrary to the earlier indication of 10 am. A special Navy team has reached the area to search the Gangavali river again, with new boats delivered by lorry.

On the sixth day since the landslide, the rescue mission is continuing vigorously. More systems have been brought in for rescue operations. There are also more tipper lorries in the area than in previous days. With the arrival of more vehicles, the soil removal work was accelerated. But frequent rains pose a challenge to rescue operations.

Rescue operations using earth-moving machines are currently being carried out at a location where a radar signal was detected yesterday. Authorities hope that the lorry will be found at this spot. Bharat Benz authorities claim there is minimal chance of mud entering the vehicle. There is also hope that the engine of the lorry was still operational on the fourth day since the rescue operations began.
