New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Monday observed that there is no need for a detailed hearing in the petitions against the High Court judgement upholding the appointment of Priya Varghese as an Associate Professor at Kannur University. Justice J.K Maheshwari, who headed the bench said that the court has seen the documents related to the case.
When the petitions were taken up for consideration on Monday, senior advocate Nitish Gupta, appearing for Priya Varghese, requested two weeks’ time to reply to the affidavits filed by various parties in the case. Accepting this demand, the SC also granted two weeks to the other parties concerned to respond to Priya’s affidavit.
Following this, the SC adjourned the hearing of the petitions for four weeks. One of the lawyers appearing for the petitioners asked the court to adjourn the taking up of the plea to four weeks when matters can be heard in detail. Following this only, Justice Maheshwari observed that this is a case that does not require a detailed hearing.
