Kozhikode: Samastha Kerala Jamiyyathul Ulama will participate in the seminar organised by the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPM) against the Uniform Civil Code, announced Samastha state president Jiffri Muthukoya Thangal.

Thangal said the cooperation would be similar to the association against the Citizenship Amendment Act. Thangal further added that Samastha would also cooperate with the Congress and the Indian Union Muslim League in this matter.

Samastha will also meet prime minister Narendra Modi and petition him regarding its opposition to UCC. These announcements were made during a special convention organised by Samasta in Kozhikode.

Thangal emphasised that the Uniform Civil Code is not a concern solely for the Muslim community. The nature of the new code remains unclear. But laws must not cause hardship for the people. They must be in line with the Constitution that grants every religion the right to live according to their faith, Thangal said.

Earlier, CPM had added Sunni Yuvajana Sangham (Samstha youth wing) state secretary Musthafa Mundupara as the vice chairman of the organising committee of the seminar announced in Kozhikode. Musthafa stated that he was not aware of it.
