
Thrissur: The sale of the Centre’s subsidised ‘Bharat rice’ has commenced in the Thrissur district in the state.
The price of the rice is Rs 29 per kilogram. So far, 150 sacks of ‘Ponni’ rice have been sold in Thrissur. The National Cooperative Consumers' Federation of India (NCCF) outlets in the state distributed the rice.
According to officials in the NCCF, the authorities are considering making 'Bharat rice' available throughout the state by next week. The sacks of rice are carried from godowns to various areas in the state using lorries and vans.
So far, the rice is made available in areas including Pattikad, Chuvannamannu and Mannuthy. Shops are likely to be opened for this purpose in the coming days.
