Thiruvananthapuram: The Travancore Devaswom Board is likely to reconsider its decision to scrap spot booking system for Sabarimala pilgrimage. Board President P.S. Prasanth assured that no devotees undertaking the pilgrimage will have to return without darshan of Lord Ayyappa, and that arrangements will be made in consultation with the government.
During peak period, additional time is typically allocated for darshan, and this will be applicable every day during the upcoming Mandala-Makaravilakku season as well.
In a review meeting on Friday, the board decided that a virtual queue would suffice for managing the influx of devotees. However, the necessity for alternative arrangements for those arriving without prior booking will be communicated to the government. The board maintains its stance on allowing spot booking at the Pamba base.
The limit for daily darshan will remain at 80,000 devotees. Those who book via the virtual queue will receive notifications 24 hours in advance, ensuring a smoother experience. They will be given a cushion time as well. For those unable to book directly, facilities will be established at Akshaya centres and public service centres, with similar arrangements at Sabarimala base camps.
Previously, excessive spot bookings had led to difficulties for pilgrims, prompting the need for advance data collection to ensure proper crowd control and insurance coverage. This data will also facilitate the provision of amenities such as food, water, and snacks, as well as allow for selection of less crowded days for darshan.
Promotional efforts regarding these arrangements will be carried out across various states. Information on crowd levels, weather, and other facilities will be communicated via messages to those who book through the virtual queue.
