Thiruvananthapuram: Electricity rates in the state have been increased by an average of 16 paise. The revised rates came into effect from Thursday. For households, the hike in different slabs ranges from 15 paise to 25 paise. As a result, the electricity bills are expected to increase by approximately Rs 14 to Rs 300 (two-month calculation). 

  • For 100 units, the cost will increase fro Rs 406 to Rs 420 (an increase of Rs 14).
  • For 200 units, the cost will increase from Rs 860 to Rs 896 (an increase of Rs 36).
  • For 300 units, the cost will increase from Rs 1410 to Rs 1456 (an increase of Rs 46).
  • For 400 units, the cost will increase from Rs 2176 to Rs 2240 (an increase of Rs 64).
  • For 500 units, the cost will increase from Rs 3016 to Rs 3106 (an increase of Rs 90).
  • For 600 units, the cost will increase from Rs 4250 to Rs 4380 (an increase of Rs 130).
  • For 700 units, the cost will increase from Rs 5496 to Rs 5650 (an increase of Rs 154).
  • For 800 units, the cost will increase from Rs 6480 to Rs 6670 (an increase of Rs 190).
  • For 1000 units, the cost will increase from Rs 8370 to Rs 8580 (an increase of Rs 210).
  • For 1500 units, the cost will increase from Rs 10,200 to Rs 10,480 (an increase of Rs 280).

The current rates will be in effect until March 31, 2025. Considering the surcharge imposed periodically and the 10% electricity duty, the actual hike may be even higher.

Additionally, the periodic surcharge will continue. For December, this surcharge is 15 paise per unit. Households in the BPL category consuming up to 40 units per month will not see any hike in rates.
