Kondotty: The Kerala government is likely to provide compensation to the owners of the lands which have been acquired as part of the development of Calicut International Airport in Karipur by September 15. In the first phase, those landowners, who did not suffer any technical hurdles in the verification of their land documents, will reportedly be provided compensation.
The state government had earlier announced that land will be acquired for the development of the Runway End Safety Area (RESA) within September 15, as directed by the union government. Accordingly, 14.5 acre of land is being procured from 80 land owners in Pallikkal and Nediyiruppu villages. Less than 40 landowners have handed over the documents so far.

Although there were plans to organise a camp to officially hand over the land documents, a final decision is yet to be made in this regard. A total of Rs 74 crore was allocated for land acquisition. Measures are also underway to transfer the amount to landowners within two days.
It is learnt that those who lose their houses due to land acquisition will be granted an additional amount of Rs 10 lakh (special package). Further, in case of loss of land, trees, buildings and other constructions, double the estimated amount will be paid as compensation.
Meanwhile, a team of official representatives carried out an inspection in Nediyiruppu village to study the problems of those who would lose roads and paths amid the acquisition, the other day. The team has proposed the construction of an eight-metre wide new road in place of the cross road that would get destroyed in the acquisition process.
However, a final decision in this regard rests with the Kerala government.
