Kottayam: The rubber price in Kerala has reached an all-time high. The Rubber Board's published price for RSS four grade sheets is Rs 247. The record price of Rs 243 was broken on April 5, 2011. A company in Kottayam has procured rubber for Rs 255, thereby becoming the most expensive deal in the history of rubber.
The price officially published by traders is Rs 242. There is a difference of Rs 44 between the international price and the Indian market price. The rubber price in Bangkok is Rs 203. The rise in prices is reflected in the agricultural sector. Tapping has been intensified in the southern districts where rainfall is relatively low.
The Rubber Board says that sheet rubber is commercially profitable and farmers should shift from latex to sheet production. Latex also is fetching good prices. That is also a record.
Latex with 60 percent DRC has a price of Rs 173. Looking at the 75-year-old history of the rubber market, this price advance is unique.
