Mankulam: Not a single tender has been called for repairing works of roads in Idukki, Pathanamthitta and Wayanad districts damaged in the 2018 floods, as announced in the Rebuild Kerala project. The Detailed Project Report (DPR) was prepared only for 15 works in two years. If no tender is issued before the Assembly elections, the repair works will be delayed further.
As part of the Rebuild Kerala project, the government had announced the reconstruction of 30 roads in Idukki, 25 in Pathanamthitta and 22 in Wayanad. The aim of the project was to repair the roads so that it won’t be destroyed in floods and mudslides.
Now after two years, the DPR of 10 works in Wayanad and 5 works in Pathanamthitta were passed in technical committee held on January 14. The DPR of 6 works in Idukki was postponed to next committee. Only after passing the DPR and obtaining the technical approval, tender can be called.
Out of the 77 works in total, the DPR preparation of 21 works have commenced. Only after the tender issuing the other procedures can be initiated.
According to officials, tender will be called for the 21 works before the election notification. However, there exists suspicion whether it will happen. The next technical committee will be held on January 25.
If technical approval is obtained for the 15 works with DPR, the tender can be called in first week of February. But if election notification is issued in between, the works will stop. Soon then, it will be monsoon and the works may be delayed further.
