Idukki: One person died in Cheriyar here as a result of the mudslide. The deceased has been identified as Roy. The incident happened in the wee hours of Monday when a wall of the house collapsed and fell on Roy who was sleeping inside. 

Although the mudslide was a minor one, reports say that the death happened due to the fragile condition of Roy’s house.  

Meanwhile, widespread destruction has been reported due to rains in the Idukki district. Landslides occurred in Santhanpara, Pethotty, and Chathurangapara. Traffic was stalled due to uprooted trees on the Kumily-Munnar road and Poopara. Destruction of farmlands has also been reported. 

Two houses were damaged in Pethotty. However, a major tragedy was averted as the landslide debris did not hit the houses directly.
