Kerala Police lodge FIR against MLA Rahul Mamkootathil for rape on promise of marriage and forced abortion; lookout notice issued at all Kerala airports.

Thiruvananthapuram: The complainant’s confidential statement in the rape case against MLA Rahul Mamkootathil is currently being recorded at the Judicial First Class Magistrate Court (JFCM) 7 in Neyyattinkara. Kerala Police have filed serious charges against MLA Rahul Mamkootathil in a case of rape on the promise of marriage.
An FIR was registered based on the complainant’s statement alleging that Rahul Mamkootathil raped the woman twice in the flat in Thiruvananthapuram and subjected her to brutal torture. According to the statement, he filmed the assaults and threatened to kill her if she disclosed the recordings.
The complainant further alleged that Rahul later called her to his flat in Palakkad, showed her the recordings, and raped her again, followed by additional threats over the phone. When the woman became pregnant, the statement says Rahul forced her to undergo an abortion, with his friend Joby Joseph delivering the abortion pills, who has also been named as an accused.
The alleged incidents occurred on May 30, 2025, with the pills reportedly handed to the woman in a red car in Kaimanam, Thiruvananthapuram, and Rahul allegedly confirming the abortion via a video call.
Rahul faces charges under eight sections, six of which carry the possibility of life imprisonment. The main allegations include rape, forced abortion, assault, housebreaking, violations of the IT Act, and breach of trust.
The complainant’s statement, recorded over five and a half hours under the supervision of Thiruvananthapuram Rural SP, spans 20 pages. The case was initially registered at Nedumangad Valiyamala police station and later transferred to Thiruvananthapuram Nemom police station.
Police have launched efforts to arrest Rahul, who is reportedly absconding. A state-wide investigation is underway, with authorities suspecting that he may attempt to leave the country via any airport in Kerala. The Thiruvananthapuram City Police Commissioner requested the Bureau of Immigration to issue a lookout notice at all airports, which was done on Friday morning. Investigations are also ongoing in Kochi following reports that Rahul may have arrived there.
