Congress MLA Rahul Mamkootathil is back in Palakkad after a month-long absence amid allegations, attending a funeral and preparing to resume political work.

Palakkad: Rahul Mamkootathil, MLA, has returned to Palakkad for the first time since allegations were made against him—38 days after leaving the constituency. He left Palakkad on August 17, and the allegations surfaced three days later, on August 20.
He arrived in the district to attend the funeral of the brother of Xavier, a local Congress leader. Reports indicate that he is preparing to resume active political work in the constituency after a month-long absence.
Despite being suspended from the primary membership of the Congress, a section of local leaders continues to support him. However, the district party leadership views his return as potentially damaging to the party’s image.
Amid the ongoing controversy over sexual harassment allegations, Mamkootathil, suspended from the Congress Party, made a public return by attending a session of the Kerala Legislative Assembly. His presence prompted strong objections from Opposition Leader V.D. Satheesan, though the Speaker permitted his attendance with restrictions.
The MLA faces serious allegations, including complaints filed by writer Honey Bhaskaran and model Rini Ann George, accusing him of obscene behaviour, stalking, and persistent harassment.
Earlier, Mamkootathil resigned as State President of the Youth Congress following public outcry but continues to serve as an MLA, as no legal proceedings or disqualification have barred him from holding office.
